Design your personal color palette!

I just had to share this fantastic site...It's extremely addictive, so you might have to limit your time there. It's been very helpful for me with coming up with colorways for our new line! They also have a wide variety of patterns you can apply your color palette to, and you can name your own colors! Something I've wanted to do for ages after dealing with so many insane names for paint colors.

Dye Surprise!

I made Wine Poached Pears for dessert last weekend, but found I didn't have any cinnamon sticks. So I improvised, and wrapped ground cinnamon in several layers of silk organza, hoping it would work. It did! And as a bonus, I have some very interesting pieces of organza. Haven't washed them with soap yet, but I thought they were pretty and worth sharing.

Finally posting...some sad news

Okay, so I haven't posted anything since March....oops! Life is so busy, it's hard to make time for blogging. I already take enough pictures of everything, so this is just one extra step. Shouldn't be that big of a deal!

My friend K has been going through some tough times lately, including losing both of her cats, about a week apart...she's having a hard time with it(as anyone would!!) and I racked my brain trying to come up with something I could do for her.

I decided to make her a rice pack, which she can heat up in the microwave and use for sore muscles, etc...I knew her cats always slept on top of her, so I thought this would be a good kitty substitute. Warm and heavy. And I embroidered silly kitty likenesses on each side of it. I know some people might be weirded out by that, but I think she will like it.

RIP One-Eyed Jack and Elvis! You were good kitties.

Most recent fave

This is my favorite scarflette we've produced so far, I just had to share it! It's the first in our new line of dyed scarflettes, and it's fleece lined, so soft and cozy! And, of course, it can be found in our Etsy shop (http://stirdesigns.etsy.com)!

and so it begins...

Hello!! I decided today is the day for starting a blog. It has always seemed like fun, although a bit intimidating. I just decided to go for it! Well, first things first, introductions! I am Stephanie Foster, the daughter half of Stir Designs, which is a mother/daughter partnership in which we create functional pieces of art using a variety of mediums, mainly using my hand dyed fabric. My degree in Textile Design has come in handy! We make an assortment of accessories including purses, scarves, and brooches, as well as knit scarves, and I do a bit of ceramic work as well. I have a hard time deciding between clay and textiles, to be honest! Some day I will come up with something that involves both. Soon I will have lots of photos up here for the viewing pleasure of all...I just need a little sleep first. Ta-ta for now!
